"The Old Athol House Cemetery"
is the oldest cemetery in Restigouche
Here a photo of the church as it was
It stood in the cemetery from about 1810 but I'm not sure how long it stood there
It was also used as a school

The church and tree have long been gone

A Memorial monument now stands in their place
Which can be seen in the other picture below
paying tribute to the following families
and it reads

As I walked or sat in the old cemetery, copying the info on these stones I couldnt help but stop between each name and think of the story that must go with each stone, each name, each family. If only these people could talk to us now, what tales they could tell..

Most of them came from Scotland, Ireland, Prince Edward Island or Nova Scotia makes you wonder why they came here, why Ferguson's Point ? , what kind of life they led, who they really were. Before I left I quietly thanked them all for letting me sit on their stones, on their door steps, and for not complaining when I walked all over them :)
